Derived from AV1 video coding, AVIF applies intra-frame prediction and finer transform blocks to still images. At the same visual quality, files are typically 20-30% smaller than WebP — the best compression ratio among mainstream formats.
The trade-off is encoding speed: AV1 is far more computationally intensive than JPEG/WebP, so each image takes longer on the server — please be patient with batch conversions. Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+, and Safari 16+ all support AVIF; fall back to WebP if you need to cover older browsers.
I process dozens of product images for new listings every day. Now I drag the whole batch in, and it compresses and zips everything automatically — main images drop from 800-900KB to around 100KB. Uploading is so much faster.

The application system required photos under 200KB and I could never hit it by tweaking quality myself. The target-size feature took 200 and nailed 199KB on the first try. Submitted successfully.

I convert all illustrations to WebP and compress them — articles load noticeably faster. Batch processing plus format conversion in one step, no more hopping between apps.
