The classic use is the social-feed grid: one travel panorama cut into 9 tiles and posted in order renders as a single big image in your friends’ feeds — far more striking than a lone photo. It works just as well on other grid-based platforms.
E-commerce operators split images to fix "detail page too long to load": an extra-long detail image becomes several segments uploaded separately, each loading progressively for a smoother read. Designers also use splitting to turn one key visual into per-platform assets.
Outputs are named by "row r + column c" (e.g. photo-r2c3.jpg is row 2, column 3). When posting or uploading, just pick files in name order — no chance of misplacing a tile.
